🎮 About This Game

Neon Hockey is our arcade air-hockey table: two glowing paddles, one very slippery puck, and a goal mouth carved out of each end wall. Score into your rival's glowing goal line; first to 7 goals takes the match. The puck physics carry the whole game — your paddle's momentum transfers into every hit, so a flick of the wrist sends a slow rebound and a full-speed charge sends a screamer that banks off the side walls. Each half of the rink belongs to one player, so there's no crease-camping in your opponent's end; the contest is all about angles, timing, and knowing when to rush the puck versus when to fall back and guard your line. Solo mode offers three CPU difficulties, from a wandering Easy keeper to a Hard bot that hounds the puck and snaps back to cover its goal. Or share the keyboard with a friend and settle it 2-player.

🎯 How to Play

Move your paddle with the Arrow Keys — up, down, left and right, anywhere inside your half of the rink (in 2-player, Player 1 uses WASD on the left and Player 2 uses the Arrow Keys on the right). The puck bounces off the top and bottom walls, and off the end walls except where the goal mouths glow — get it through your rival's goal line to score. After each goal, the puck re-serves toward the player who conceded. First to 7 goals wins. If a rally dies completely, the game quietly resets the puck to center. During play: P pauses, R restarts the match, Esc returns to the menu, and M toggles sound.

💡 Tips & Strategy

  • Hit through the puck, not at it. Your paddle's speed transfers into the shot, so strike while accelerating — a stationary paddle only produces a soft rebound.
  • Bank shots off the top and bottom walls beat straight shots. The goal mouth is barely a third of the wall, and a good angle forces the defender to cross the whole rink.
  • When the puck crosses into your rival's half, fall back to your goal line instead of hugging the center — you cover every angle from there.
  • Never chase the puck into your own corners at speed; an overrun paddle is an open goal. Approach corner pucks from behind, goal-side.
  • Soft touches matter: nudging the puck against a wall and catching the rebound resets the rally on your terms.
  • The Hard CPU commits hard to the puck when it's on its side — fake a shot down the middle, let it charge, then bank around it off a wall.

🛠 From the Devs

The puck friction took the longest to tune of anything in this game. Real air hockey pucks barely slow down, but a browser rink with zero drag turns into ping-pong chaos — so the puck carries just enough damping that rallies build and decay naturally. Momentum transfer on paddle hits (about half your paddle speed goes into the puck) is what makes the game feel physical. There's also a small quality-of-life system: if a rally stalls completely — puck pinned and barely moving for a couple of seconds — the game resets the serve rather than making you dig it out of a wall.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Why did the puck suddenly reset to the middle of the rink?

That's the anti-stall system. If the puck barely moves for a couple of seconds — usually pinned against a wall where neither player can get a clean hit — the game automatically re-serves it from center so the rally doesn't die.

Can I cross into my opponent's half?

No — each paddle is locked to its own half of the rink, like a defended center line. All offense happens by shooting the puck across, which keeps the duel about angles and timing rather than paddle wrestling.

How many goals do I need to win?

First to 7 goals wins the match. Serves alternate toward whoever just conceded, so you always get the puck after being scored on.
