🎮 About This Game

Spike! is our one-button volleyball duel: two spring-loaded slimes, one net, and a ball that refuses to stay in the air on its own. The rules fit in a sentence — if the ball touches the floor on your side, your rival scores, first to 5 points wins — but the rallies are where the game lives. Every bounce off your slime inherits your momentum, so a standing bump pops the ball up gently while a running jump turns it into a downward spike your opponent has to scramble under. The net has a real top edge that deadens the ball, so cheeky net-rollers and desperate saves are both part of the meta. Solo mode serves up three CPU difficulties, from a slow-reacting Easy slime to a Hard one that tracks the ball almost perfectly and times its jumps well. In 2-player mode, two slimes share one keyboard and one very loud argument about whose floor that was.

🎯 How to Play

Move with ← and → and jump with Space or ↑ (in 2-player, Player 1 moves with A/D and jumps with W; Player 2 uses ← → and jumps with ↑). The ball drops in from above at the start of each rally — keep it off the floor on your side and put it down on your rival's side. The ball rebounds off your slime's dome, carrying your movement and jump momentum into the bounce, bounces off the side walls, and dies a little every time it clips the top of the net. Score when the ball lands on your opponent's floor; first to 5 points wins the match. P pauses, R restarts, Esc returns to the menu.

💡 Tips & Strategy

  • Rise into the ball. Hitting while jumping adds your upward speed to the bounce — meet the ball on your way up for power, on your way down for soft control.
  • Position slightly behind the ball's landing spot, not under it. Contact on your front edge pushes the ball forward over the net; contact dead-center just pops it straight up.
  • The spike setup is two touches: a gentle standing bump to set the ball high on your side, then a running jump through it as it falls.
  • Watch the net top. A ball that clips it loses most of its bounce and dribbles — be ready to sprint in for the drop, on both offense and defense.
  • Use the side walls on defense: a mishit that bounces off your back wall comes back into play, so a desperate wall save beats letting the ball drop.
  • The Easy and Normal CPUs react late to fast spikes but read slow lobs well — vary your tempo instead of your placement.

🛠 From the Devs

Slime volleyball is a genre with decades of history in browser games, and our version is a tribute tuned from zero: the ball falls under lighter gravity than the slimes, which is the invisible trick that makes long rallies possible — you can outrun the ball's arc, but only just. Momentum transfer on every touch was the other non-negotiable: the difference between a bump and a spike had to come from how you moved, not from a separate button. The CPU only jumps when the ball is close, falling, and above it — the same checklist we'd teach a human player.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How do I spike the ball downward?

Jump into the ball while it's falling and you're rising — your slime's upward and forward momentum transfers into the bounce and drives the ball down across the net. A standing hit can only ever pop the ball upward.

What happens when the ball hits the net?

The net's top edge is solid but deadening: the ball loses most of its bounce and tends to dribble down close to the net. Net clips are usually followed by a scramble — whoever reads the drop first wins the point.

Can the ball go out of bounds?

No — the side walls and ceiling keep every rally alive, and rebounds off them are fair play. The only way a rally ends is the ball touching the floor, which scores for the other side.
