🎮 About This Game
Tank Duel is a top-down artillery duel where the walls are weapons: every shell ricochets off the arena border and the cover blocks up to two times, so the deadliest shots are the ones that arrive from a direction nobody was facing. Two tanks, three concrete blocks for cover, five rounds to win. Each tank can keep at most three shells in the air with a short reload between shots, which makes ammunition discipline a real skill — an empty chamber at the wrong moment is how most rounds end. And the bounces don't care who fired: after a brief grace period, your own ricochet can absolutely come back and destroy you. Solo mode's CPU scales from a scattershot Easy gunner to a Hard bot with near-perfect aim that flanks around cover when it loses sight of you. In 2-player, both tank commanders share one keyboard.
🎯 How to Play
Turn your tank with ← and →, drive forward with ↑ and reverse (slower) with ↓, and fire with Space (in 2-player, Player 1 drives with WASD and fires with Space; Player 2 uses the Arrow Keys and fires with /). Shells travel fast, bounce off walls and cover blocks up to two times, then disappear. You can have three shells alive at once, with a short reload between shots — the white ring around your tank shows the reload progress. One hit destroys a tank and ends the round; first to 5 round wins takes the match. P pauses, R restarts the match, Esc returns to the menu.
💡 Tips & Strategy
- ▸The bank shot is the whole game. A shell fired at a wall arrives from an angle your rival isn't watching — aim at surfaces, not at tanks.
- ▸Don't spam all three shells. An empty magazine during their push is a lost round; keep one shell in reserve and watch your reload ring.
- ▸Your own ricochet can kill you. After firing at a nearby wall, move off your firing line — chasing your own bullet is a classic self-elimination.
- ▸Reverse is slower than forward. When a shell is incoming, turning and driving away beats backing up almost every time.
- ▸Use the cover blocks to reload in peace, but don't linger: when the CPU loses line of sight it starts flanking around your block, so relocate before it rounds the corner.
- ▸Mid-range is king. Point blank, both of you land everything; long range, nobody does. Fight at the distance where your aim is better than theirs.
🛠 From the Devs
The ricochet system is deliberately simple — axis-aligned bounces with a two-bounce budget per shell — because predictable bounces are what make deliberate bank shots possible. Our favorite emergent rule wasn't planned: shells only spare their owner for a fraction of a second, so reckless close-range ricochets genuinely backfire. Playtesting also taught us a lesson in AI honesty: our first CPU would drive nose-first into cover and stall there whenever it lost sight of you. It now picks a flank direction and swings wide around the block until it regains line of sight, which turned the boring stalemate into the game's most dangerous moment.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my own bullet destroy my tank?
Shells only ignore the tank that fired them for a brief moment after leaving the barrel. Once a shell has bounced, it's live for everyone — including you. Treat every ricochet in flight as a hazard and move off your own firing line.
How many times do shells bounce?
Up to two bounces off any combination of the arena walls and the cover blocks, then the shell disappears. That budget is what makes deliberate bank shots plannable — a first bounce is predictable, a second is a gamble.
Why can't I fire more shells?
Each tank is limited to three shells in the air at once, plus a short reload between shots (watch the white ring around your tank). The cap is deliberate: it rewards aimed, intentional shots over filling the arena with spray.
