Co-op Games — Finish It Together

Almost every two-player browser game is a versus game. That is not laziness on anyone's part — versus is simply cheaper to build. Give both players the same moves, point them at each other, and you have a game. Co-op has to justify why the second person is there at all, usually by splitting a verb, a view or a resource between them, and that is a whole design problem rather than a setting. So this is the shortest collection on the site, and deliberately so. Every game here runs on one device with a single shared goal, and both players are genuinely required to reach it — if one of you can win the round, it did not make the list.

🎯 Why these games made the list

The test was simple and strict: a shared goal, a shared outcome, and two people who both have to show up. Three of these are ours. Tether ties the players together with a rope that has a maximum length. Beam gives one player the light and the other the ability to walk in it, so neither can see and act at the same time. Color Gates hands you two colours between the two of you, meaning the colour you need is the one you have to take off your partner. The other three come from the catalogue: Slicer Duo shares a fail state across two blades, 2 Player Games Kids Kitchen splits a restaurant into stations that outpace one person, and Two Supra Drifters keeps a cooperative run where both drivers chase one combined total. Plenty of games look co-op and are not — racing the same obstacle course while being scored separately is still a race.

💡 How to enjoy this collection

All six work on one keyboard, with Player 1 on WASD and Player 2 on the arrow keys, so sit close enough that neither of you is reaching across. Start with Slicer Duo or Two Supra Drifters if you have never played together — both forgive a bad round. Move to Tether next, because being physically attached teaches two people to co-ordinate faster than any tutorial. Save Color Gates for last: it is the only one here that actively punishes taking turns. On a phone, the three originals split the screen into two halves with separate controls; turn the device sideways first.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a game co-op instead of just two-player?

A shared goal and a shared outcome. If one player can win the round, it is a versus game however friendly it feels. Every game in this collection succeeds or fails for both players at the same time.

Why are there only six games here?

Because those are the ones that actually qualify. We checked the whole catalogue against the same test rather than padding the list with two-player games that happen to be pleasant. Three of the six are games we built ourselves, which is largely why the collection exists at all.

Can I play these on my own?

Tether, Beam and Color Gates each have a solo mode where you switch between both characters — the puzzle is unchanged and only the timing gets harder. Slicer Duo and Two Supra Drifters are better with someone next to you, and the Kids Kitchen restaurant assumes two pairs of hands.

Do any of them work on a phone?

Tether, Beam and Color Gates support two players on one phone: the screen splits into halves and each player gets their own controls. Two Supra Drifters plays well on touch in single player. The rest assume a shared keyboard.
